DEATH® IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK
THE OFFICIAL DAVID HACKNEY SITE
THE ORIGINAL “ROUGH FRANCIS”
Welcome to the exclusive website constructed for
the legacy, memory, and extraordinary talent of
David Hackney.
David Hackney (Born March 19, 1952), is the oldest
member of the legendary Detroit Rock band Death
from the 1970s, whose music, after over 35 years
was discovered in 2008, and is now credited and
acknowledged by Rock music historians and Rock
artists alike, as being the sound that pre-dated the
entire Punk-Rock 'N' Roll movement years before
the term "Punk Rock" became associated with
Rock music. David is the member of Death who
came up with the name for the band in 1973. David
is also the one who defiantly refused and rebuked
the music industry when asked to change the
name of the band to secure a major-label record
deal. This site center is devoted to the legacy, the
ideas, the wisdom, and the music of David
Hackney. David passed away in October of 2000.
Fortunately for Death fans and supporters
everywhere, David Hackney left a wealth of songs,
song snippets, ideas, and interesting recorded
pieces of spoken words and sound-art.
The legacy of Death and all three brothers David,
Dannis, and Bobby Hackney is wonderfully
displayed in the acclaimed major motion picture
documentary/film "A Band Called Death". The
highly acclaimed Death album "For The Whole
World To See" featuring the music recorded in
Detroit in 1974 and 1975 by all three brothers at
Detroit's legendary United Sound Recording studio
was released in 2009 by the record label Drag City
Records and is currently available throughout the
world.
